It was daddy-daughter day and we chose Annie's First Wok. It's by far not our first rodeo there. As residents of Farragut Housing our family experienced their food since Annie was physically there back in the day when she first moved from the Lower East Side. My daughter loves chicken wings with vegetable fried rice. I love the House special Lo-Mei. Linda, the woman who runs things now is amazing. I also love the steak and onion combo they have going on. They have great food when you want a night in for a sports game.

Annie's First Wok is a great American-Chinese joint. It's a grab and go type of establishment, and for very good reason, but don't take my word for it. Annie first began in the Lower East Side of the city with a Chinese food stand, she was then able to open her first restaurant, hence the name. Succeeded by her daughter Linda. Wonderful personalities and delicious food that will make you want to take a nap after. The chicken wings are a must try, as well as their General Tso's chicken combo. This establishment is cash only and I'm sure it will stay that way. You can call to order before you arrive, making it easier to just pay and go.

Very good in the hood... it's all take out. Although it is on the cusp of a sketchy area, I would definitely recommend this place for the quality of the food. Don't be afraid of the plexiglass and the hole you pass your money and receive your food through.

Let me recommend the roast pork fried rice! It is delicious, and studded with a generous allocation of red-cooked pork. Don't be put off by the bullet proof glass at the order window. Hey, this is quality food for affordable prices. (And yes, they have a light offering of onion rings and a cheeseburger if you must, but please order the Chinese food here!) It is really, really good.

I miss this place. Lived in Brooklyn during the shutdown and am happily back in Manhattan, but damn, this place was good. Better than Chinatown I dare say. I'm used to Chinese food being cheap and sloppy jalopy but that ain't the case here. I remember getting the $13 Seafood Special and letting it sit in the fridge for 3 days and expecting it to go bad but when I sniffed and tasted it, it was as fresh as the first day. Also, their shrimp fried rice was the best I'd ever tasted. Warm nutritious and succulent is how I'd describe their food. Scarf it down with no regrets. Another great plus of this place is seeing the racially harmonious interactions between customers and staff. It really warmed my heart to see a neighborhood staple thrive amidst all the civil unrest and seemingly uncertainties. Kudos to the conscientious cook and friendly FOH at Annie's First Wok. I just might walk across the M-bridge and back just for more of their great home cookin. YES IT (LIFE AND FOOD) REALLY IS THIS GOOD.

There are no seats in here and you must pay cash, but they cook pretty well! For takeout Chinese it's pretty great--vegetables are still crisp and green and not over cooked. Regulars seem to have a good rapport and are on a first name basis with Linda, who runs the counter.

The owner of this restaurant is very friendly. They serve the basic American Chinese as expected but well worth the price. The look of the establishment is as that of other Chinese restaurants! It's clean, well lit and rodent/bug free. I will continue coming as long as the food continues to be fresh and made to order

While the exterior and location is gritty (a couple of blocks from the York Street station but feels a world away from gentrified Dumbo), this is great takeout Chinese food - and I've searched long and hard for a good option in Brooklyn Heights/Dumbo. I'll definitely return.
